New Series of Electric Reach Trucks
01 Feb 2015

SPAN, Jungheinrich’s regional partner for Material Handling Equipment, has recently introduced the new series 3 reach trucks that are capable of lifting payloads at a height of 13 meters. Three models are currently available (ETV320 and ETV/ETM325) each with a basic capacity of 2.0 tons and 2.5 tons respectively, and capable of carrying a payload up to 1 ton at their maximum lifting height.

Other than increasing the lifting height by over one and a half metre compared to its predecessors, a key characteristic of the new reach truck consists of its substantially lower energy consumption, coupled with a higher throughput rate. Joachim Schier, Head of Product Management for Reach Trucks at Jungheinrich, explains: “Measurements have indicated that, while consuming 10 percent less energy, the latest generation of trucks also performs up to 10 percent higher than before”.

A special highlight of the new series 3 consists of the protective panorama roof made of tinted safety glass instead of the inconvenient cross members. According to Samir Azar, Product Manager of Material Handling Equipment at Span: “The Jungheinrich team in Germany has done an incredible job in developing an even safer reach truck by improving the visibility during storing and picking operations, especially at high lift heights. These situations could usually be hazardous for the operator, however one is now protected from any falling payloads, small parts and loose bulk material while still maintaining unobstructed visibility.”

The ETV/ETM 325 series is also equipped with a new electric steering system. “The steering wheel knob is always in the most ergonomic position — i.e. the so-called 9 o’clock position — whenever the truck travels in a straight line,” states Schier. He continues to explain that the Jungheinrich steering control will always bring the knob to the starting position, even if the wheel was rotated while the truck was switched off.

Moreover, the new reach trucks boast a greatly expanded number of driver assistance systems which make the operator’s work easier and more efficient. The Position Control assistance enables the truck to automatically recognise the right rack level and helps prevent damage to goods and shelving. Furthermore, the Warehouse Control assistance system allows for the collection of data that can be transmitted from the reach truck terminal to an external system. The data is processed in the vehicle and serves as set points for lift height pre-selection, which increases efficiency and excludes storing and picking errors; clearly differentiating Jungheinrich trucks from the rest of the market. In addition, the Operation Control assistance system permits the user to monitor the residual lifting capacity. Once the latter is almost reached, the forklift operator receives both visual and acoustic alarm signals.

SPAN is one of the pioneers of the MENA region to introduce reach trucks with a lift height of 13 metres, higher residual capacity, greater visibility, safer manoeuvring system, lower energy consumption, and several assistance systems. These advantages are aimed to increase the machine’s operating hours and the driver’s performance while ensuring a more efficient operation with improved productivity.
