BLOM Bank installs a state of the art mobile archive storage system to achieve optimal space utilization
10 Aug 2019

BLOM Bank is a leading Lebanese bank which has repeatedly been selected as the ‘Best Bank’ in Lebanon by recognized regional and international institutions. Its successful business operations are based on a universal banking model that includes: Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, Private Banking, Investment Banking, Retail Banking, Islamic Banking, Asset and Wealth Management, Capital Market Services, and Insurance Products & Services.  BLOM Bank has the widest foreign presence among Lebanese Banks, and is currently present in 12 countries worldwide.

In light of its sustained growth Blom Bank was faced with a rapid increase in its archiving requirements. The decision was taken to centralize all the archives in a purpose built facility that would enable it to efficiently meet the growing demand for capacity. The key objectives were to (1) ensure the safe storage of all data, (2) quick access to all the archives, and (3) optimally utilize the available space.

BLOM Bank worked closely with SPAN Group to implement a solution that would meet the above challenges.  The final design incorporated a mobile shelving solution that covered an area of 1,520 square meters, provided 20,000 meters of linear storage, and accommodate up to 43,000 archive boxes.  ‘We had to work very closely with the BLOM team to design a solution that allowed us to achieve almost a 100% increase in storage capacity compared to static shelving while ensuring that we did not sacrifice speed and selectivity’ commented Mr. Fadi Hajjar, SPAN Beirut Sales Manager, ‘the solution had to be simple, affordable, and expandable to meet potential future growth requirements.’

The System is provided with a locking mechanism for each block thus ensuring security of stored archive boxes. The system only required one access aisle as the mobile units could be moved individually or together to create an aisle as and where entry is required therefore eliminating unnecessary aisle space.  The typical characteristics of the solution deployed include:

  • High density storage with excellent floor area utilization
  • Good product protection and security
  • Frames and shelves mounted onto mobile bases running on floor rails
  • Elimination of multiple working aisles therefore achieving up to 90% higher storage capacity when compared to conventional shelving systems
  • Excellent accessibility and expandability
  • Ability to accommodate with different accessories such as drawers, hanging folders, and lockable cabinets

‘We feel privileged to have been entrusted by BLOM Bank to assist them in this strategic project’ added Mr. Fadi Hajjar, ‘and are looking forward to working with them in the future to support their growth plans.’
