SPAN has delivered a robotic automation proof of concept (POC) at ProConnect's new third-party logistics (3PL) facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
As ProConnect grows its presence in the Saudi market, its focus stays the same: supporting its customers in the best possible way. That means faster fulfilment, accurate inventory, and the flexibility to grow with each customer's business. With its new 3PL facility, ProConnect saw a chance to raise the bar by bringing automation into its operations from day one.
To prove the value of automation in a live environment before scaling up, ProConnect partnered with SPAN to deliver a POC in a dedicated area of the warehouse. The goal was to achieve real gains in efficiency and accuracy while making sure the new technology fit smoothly into the way the site already ran.
SPAN designed, installed, and commissioned a HAI Robotics goods-to-person solution. ACRs (autonomous case-handling robots) and AMRs (autonomous mobile robots) work together: the ACRs retrieve and store bins in high-density racking, while the AMRs move them to and from the workstations. The solution is fully integrated with ProConnect's Infor warehouse management system (WMS), so tasks flow directly from the WMS to the robots and inventory stays in sync in real time.
The system is now fully operational, and ProConnect is very satisfied with the results. Robots bring goods directly to the operator, cutting walking time and speeding up picking and replenishment. System-directed tasks reduce errors and improve inventory accuracy, while high-density storage makes better use of space. Above all, ProConnect now has a proven model to extend automation across the facility as it grows.
Commenting on the project, Zahi Bitar, General Manager of SPAN, said: "Congratulations to ProConnect for their vision and their commitment to building a future-ready operation in the Kingdom. This project succeeded because of the strong synergy between the SPAN and ProConnect teams, who worked side by side from design through go-live. We are happy with what has been achieved and look forward to supporting ProConnect as they take automation to the next level."
Santhosh Kumar PK, General manager – Contract Logistics at ProConnect, added: “SPAN has been a valued partner in bringing this automation initiative to life, and we appreciate their commitment and support throughout the project. For ProConnect, this project represents another important step in our journey toward operational excellence and technology-enabled logistics, while reinforcing our customer-first approach and our commitment to creating scalable, efficient, and reliable solutions for our customers.”
This project shows how a focused, well-integrated first step can turn an automation plan into real value for a 3PL operator and its customers. SPAN looks forward to continuing the journey with ProConnect as it grows in the Kingdom.
