Aramex New Distribution Center
10 Sep 2019

Aramex is a leading global provider of comprehensive logistics and transportation solutions. Its services include International and Domestic Express Delivery, Freight-forwarding, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, e-Commerce, and Record Management. Since its foundation in 1982, Aramex has grown to become a global leader in the logistics and transportation industry, recognized for its customized and innovative services for businesses and consumers. Headquartered in the UAE, the company is centrally located at the crossroads between East and West, which allows it to provide customized logistics solutions anywhere in the world effectively and reach more businesses and consumers regionally and globally.

With the increased popularity of e-commerce and online shopping in Lebanon, Aramex continued its efforts towards further modernizing and centralizing its operations to a single regional distribution centre that would allow for more efficiency in meeting the market’s growing demands, while achieving economies of scale.

After a rigorous selection process that included several meetings, presentations, and discussions, Aramex awarded SPAN the task of designing and equipping its new distribution centre in the Northern Suburb of Beirut. The design incorporated selective pallet racking, a two‐tier structural mezzanine as well as a multi-tier picking gallery. The pallet racking system will accommodate bulk storage with over 4,300 pallet positions, while the multi-tier shelving of 700 square meters caters to retail and e-commerce businesses.

The walkways utilized Meiser wire mesh grating, a structural element that has a high load-bearing capacity with a low dead weight and a high level of air and light penetration. Moreover, the mezzanine had a 1,000 square meter area with a platform height of 5,300 mm equipped with fire retardant flooring to reduce the spread of flames and smoke throughout the warehouse in case of fire. The storage infrastructure is served by Jungheinrich Material Handling Equipment from Germany, helping Aramex move products in a safe and efficient manner.

‘’The main challenge in every project is to provide an efficient design that not only maximises the storage capacity but also offers the best operational flow’’, explains Fadi Hajjar, SPAN’s Area Sales Manager.

“The growth in e-commerce is also driving the need for better space utilization and organization in fulfilment centres in the region,” said Assaad Sebaaly, Aramex Country Manager – Lebanon. ‘’We have gone higher to maximise volume in the facility and are therefore using a multi-level system that allow us use as much space as possible,” added Mr. Sebaaly.
