Agility recently commissioned SPAN to undertake the implementation of an ambitious project covering 21,000 sqm of warehouse space in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi. From the very start, Agility placed its trust in SPAN’s expertise and supply chain know-how to support them in designing the optimal facility.
The design, created in close consultation with Agility, comprised of 6 warehouses with a total of 15,000 pallet positions. “We had several meetings with the Agility senior management to ensure we understood their vision as well as with the operations team to validate that all their requirements were being met. The set-up of the storage system and the corresponding material handling equipment had to meet all the different operational and end customer requirements. Working as a team, we were able to put together a solution that made optimal use of the available space, minimized transportation routes, and guaranteed an efficient process”, stated Mr. Nadim Al Fakih, SPAN Head of Regional Accounts Department.
The final design incorporated standard selective pallet racking, very narrow aisle (VNA) pallet racking, as well as a multi-tier mezzanine racking system that can accommodate up to 27,000 boxes for Records Management Storage. The solution also included a bolt-free shelving system for the fashion storage of around 1,400 shelf locations. The above design along with the utilization of specialized Jungheinrich Material Handling Equipment from Germany, allowed Agility to overcome its most pressing operational challenges including product movement and rotation, space management, and tight delivery times.
